About this event

A special exhibition marking Shinagawa Aquarium's 35th anniversary and 50 years since the Japanese edition of The Very Hungry Caterpillar was published. It sets the colors of Eric Carle's collages beside the colors and patterns of the aquarium's creatures, showing that even in the same world, each one shines in its own color. The Clownfish Room on B1 is decorated like a picture book, with about 10 species shown in 2 corners.

Highlights

  • "Art and Color": compare the colors of the artworks with fish patterns, such as the powder blue tang and coral hind
  • "Mimicry and Observation": a hands-on display where you look for Amazon leaffish and frogfish
  • Illustrated panels with explanations at tanks around the aquarium, and a picture book library in the jellyfish area
  • A coloring corner in the Dolphin Room (choose a dolphin, penguin or sea turtle)
  • Limited-quantity food such as caterpillar soda, plus limited goods like key chains and can badges
Good for
Parents and kids who love The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and families with small children

Good to know

  • From 11/11 to 11/13 the special exhibition in the Clownfish Room is closed for a display change
  • Coloring sheets are not returned (staff choose some to post on the board)
