Why does Huge Gallery open its doors to artists without established reputations?
Huge Gallery is a London-born exhibition platform for emerging artists. Founded by Nancy Markou, it places greater emphasis on the work itself than on traditional art-world credentials. Independent artists can apply to present their work in physical galleries or digital exhibitions. Selected participants receive exhibition documentation and artist features that help their work reach audiences beyond the event.
In 2026, Huge Gallery held group exhibitions in London in February, April, May, July and September, as well as a show in Barcelona. Its Tokyo open call welcomes painting, photography, sculpture, illustration and digital art from artists of different backgrounds, including self-taught creators and those living abroad. Artists do not have to travel to Tokyo to exhibit, reflecting the gallery's aim to bring creative work across borders.
The host venue, Design Festa Gallery Harajuku, opened in spring 1998 with a mission to create an open space for everyone who expresses themselves creatively. Its WEST and EAST buildings contain more than 20 exhibition rooms, accommodating everything from first solo shows to exhibitions organised by friends. Huge Gallery's support for emerging international artists meets Harajuku's tradition of accessible creative space. With that shared philosophy in mind, take a closer look at the artists and their work.
