About this event

Projection mapping themed on the 1,400-year history and culture of Senso-ji temple. Different videos of about 6 minutes each are projected in turn on the Main Hall and the Hozomon Gate, with motifs from large votive paintings, the illustrated temple origin scroll "Kanbun Engi," and ukiyo-e connected to Senso-ji. During the same period, there are special (paid) viewings of the usually closed Denboin Garden and Ema-do votive picture hall.

Highlights

  • Separate videos of about 6 minutes on the Main Hall and Hozomon Gate. The first-ever projection on the Main Hall
  • The mapping shows the same video whenever you go
  • The special viewing includes the usually closed Denboin Garden and the Ema-do, with about 50 large votive paintings
  • A sea-of-clouds effect in the garden for about 10 minutes, roughly every 30 minutes
  • At night, garden illumination and the dance performance "Kinryu Yakai"
Good for
People interested in Asakusa's history or temple culture, and anyone who wants to walk around Asakusa at night

Good to know

  • It is crowded right after the start, so a later time is recommended
  • Projection goes ahead in rain, but may be paused or cancelled in stormy weather
  • Tripods, selfie sticks, flash and drones are not allowed
  • Photography is allowed in the garden but not in the Ema-do. There are many steps and it is not barrier-free
